CreSer

The CreSer program in the Mixteca Alta region of Oaxaca was created for the youth of the village of Yucuiji. CreSer provides innovative environmental and arts programming for children who have limited access to educational resources. Our program encourages youth to explore their creativity in the visual and performing arts, developing their powers of self-expression, instilling self-confidence, and fueling their interest in learning.

Crecer (to grow) + Ser (to be) = CreSer

We believe that the arts and creativity are transformational tools for developing critical thinking. With every workshop, we cultivate a nurturing learning environment for children to explore their creativity, and discover new ways of analyzing the world around them, while having fun.

With our three-to-four day workshops amidst the beautiful pine-forested mountains, CreSer has brought wood carving, film photography, drawing, literature, and performing arts programs to Yucuiji. The workshops also emphasize environmental awareness and education. Our volunteer instructors include local and visiting artists, teachers, and environmentalists.

The CreSer workshops will be expanding to villages neighboring Yucuiji in the near future. The program’s educational initiatives in the area include a collaboration on a library project in the nearby village of Progreso, with future plans to build a children’s center and library adjacent to the primary school in Yucuiji. Through CreSer, we hope to provide a foundation for independent thought, creative expression and lifelong learning.
